In 2013 Rafi was voted the best voice in Hindi cinema in the CNN-IBN poll.

He has recorded songs for over a thousand films in Hindi and has sung songs in several regional Indian languages ​​as well as foreign languages, although mainly in Hindi-Urdu and Punjabi over which he had a strong command. He has recorded up to 7405 songs in many languages.
